Training program on Human Rights, Family Law, Gender, Conflict, Restorative Justice (RJ), and Mediation
At Nagorik Uddyog, we believe that real change starts right in our local neighborhoods. That is why we recently hosted a special two-day training program in Dacope, Khulna. From June 21 to 22, 2026, local leaders gathered at the Farmers Training Hall to learn how to solve community arguments fairly, peacefully, and with extra care for women's rights.
Working Together for Fairer Communities
This training was part of our project called "Community-based Dispute Resolution Mechanisms and Improving Gender-just Access to Justice." That is a big title, but it simply means we want to help local people fix legal problems and arguments in a way that treats men and women exactly the same.
For this first session, we teamed up with a local partner group called the Association for Social Development & Distressed Welfare (ASDDW). We were so happy to have 20 participants join us-including 9 women and 11 men. Everyone sat together to share their ideas, ask questions, and practice new skills.
What Did We Learn?
Our main goal was to help local problem-solvers (also called mediators) understand how to guide their neighbors through peaceful fixes when arguments happen.
During the two days, the Chief Executive and Program Manager from Nagorik Uddyog visited the class to share advice. Together with the participants, they talked about important topics like:
-
Human Rights: Why every single person deserves respect and safety.
-
Family Law: The basic legal rules that protect parents and children.
-
Restorative Justice and Mediation: How to fix a mistake or an argument by talking it out, making things right, and keeping the community united-instead of just punishing someone.
Learning by Doing
Instead of just sitting and listening to long speeches, our 20 participants got to work! They looked at real-life stories, talked in pairs, and did fun practice exercises. By acting out different problems, they learned how to listen carefully and make sure women and marginalized community members always get a fair say.
By the end of the workshop, these leaders left with better skills and more confidence. We are excited to see them bring these peace-making tools back to their villages to build a safer, fairer, and happier community for everyone!
